A MESSAGE FROM TODD SLAUGHTER

For many years Elvis fans have asked me to write a behind-the-scenes book about my experiences running the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain.

I thought if I committed my mémoire to print, I would leave myself open to criticism of embellishing my standing within the Elvis Community. I was fortunate to meet Elvis three times at events so documented that everyone would already know what happened second-by-second.  I could hint on clandestine meetings behind closed doors with Elvis and the Colonel, but where is the profit in fake news. As the years pass by, the mind isn’t what it used to be, so it is easy to exaggerate. You tell the same concocted stories so often that perhaps the lies become believable.

Having had a heart transplant 26 years ago I was shielded during lockdown, so what do I do to pass the time. I could improve my French, but I aren’t crossing the English Channel in any hurry. I don’t knit very well, and my tap-dancing days are well and truly over. So, perhaps I should write that book.

ELVIS AND MORE: THE SPOILS OF WAR isn’t a biography of Elvis, though Elvis Presley and the events surrounding my devotion play a major part in the content of what is my autobiography.

There was the temptation to expose those who have been detrimental to the good standing of the world’s most respected fan club. Venting my spleen might have satisfied my wish to “out” the bad guys but, why bother? Protecting the integrity of the standing within the entertainment industry of the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club, was most important. Celebrating the majesty of Elvis Presley had to be my prime objective. I have been actively involved in the Elvis bubble for almost 60 years so I can never be accused of being a charlatan.

There are criticisms within my autobiography, but they are self-flagellating, so much so that I was often in tears during this book’s creation. I have told you nothing about the book so you will have to buy it.

As the Amazon promotion exalts this is my book. This is the autobiography of the world’s most well-known fan club president, Todd Slaughter, not through celebrity but because of his unforgettable name. His encounters with the rich and famous occurred – not that anyone wanted to meet him, but everyone wanted to talk about Elvis.  Conceived on the battlefields of Flanders (coastal Belgium) during WWII, adopted into poverty by loving parents, and growing up in the cosmopolitan East Midlands city of Leicester, this is the story of one man’s determination to promote and preserve the legacy of Elvis Presley.  Todd’s passion for Elvis is unquestionable. His achievements for Elvis, for the Official Elvis Presley Fan Club of Great Britain and its members are remarkable. His involvement with entertainment industry moguls is unbelievable. Despite bad luck, bad health and bad people, Todd has survived to tell a remarkable story.

And my final salvo is as follows, directed at those who will say “He has only done it for the money”. Royalties from the sale of this book will be gifted to the Royal Papworth Hospital Charity Trust
